14th July Fireworks in the bay of Cannes |
Cannes hosts the annual Festival D’Art Pyrotechnique during
the months of July and August where countries put on displays in the stunning
setting of the bay of Cannes accompanied by music. You can get great views of
the show from almost anywhere along the seafront, La Croisette, on the public
beach beside the Palais des Festivals or equally in the old town
of Le Suquet (though it’s usually more tricky to hear the music from here). Or
if you’re one of the lucky ones, from a yacht at anchor in the bay! This year
the public can also vote for their preferred winners via the website: https://www.festival-pyrotechnique-cannes.com/en/public-prize
There are plenty of big shows for the 14th July to
celebrate Bastille Day, the French National holiday. Often neighbouring towns
try and stagger the shows so you can see displays on the 13th, 14th
and 15th if you so wish!
It’s not only Cannes that lights up the summer sky –
neighbouring towns of Mandelieu, Antibes and Cagnes Sur Mer all have several
soirees organised as well. In Cagnes sur Mer they are
hosting two evenings (20th July and 9th August) called ‘Promenade en Fête’ along the seafront from 8.30pm – midnight.
There will be live music, entertainment for the kids, a night market and a big fireworks display. There will be plenty of free
parking available in the Hippodrome nearby. There will also be a
fireworks display in the Hippodrome – dates below.
In Mandelieu there are several different evenings where the sky will be lit with fireworks including a special show dedicated to the 75th Anniverary of D-Day on Friday 23rd August 2019 at 10pm which will be followed by a special DJ set.
A little further along the coast, Monaco also hosts their own fireworks competition and this year sees competing countries from Spain, Lithuania, the Ukraine and the UK. As with Cannes this is an actual competition and the shows are set to music. Your best vantage point is Quai Albert 1iere and as parking can be tricky in Monaco centre it’s a good idea to take the train (assuming there are no strikes that day!)
